On Friday, Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, said that he would have to make a new phone to compete against the likes of Apple and Google if they decide to ban Twitter from their app stores.
The future of Twitter being in Apple and Google’s app stores has been a frequently talked about topic lately, considering Musk’s desire for not limiting speech. As long as it’s not offensive to him, of course.
The billionaire’s claim comes in response to a tweet made by Liz Wheeler, who is a conservative podcast host and former OANN host.
Wheeler tweeted, “If Apple & Google boot Twitter from their app stores, @elonmusk should produce his own smartphone.” She claimed that half of the country would “happily ditch the biased, snooping iPhone & Android. The man builds rockets to Mars, a silly little smartphone should be easy, right?”
Musk responded that he does not wish for that outcome but, “if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone.”
Wheeler even posted a poll, trying to see the people who would support and use the “tELONphone” and the majority voted “yes”.
Though Musk may sound sure about this new phone, there are many things he has said he would do in the past and hasn’t done. Some of these being the Tesla Semi or Cybertruck.
