A former Boston police officer has been detained for his participation in the assault on the US Capitol on January 6, according to police.

According to FBI Boston, 52-year-old Plymouth, Massachusetts resident Joseph Fisher was detained on felony counts, including assaulting a police officer during the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

In addition to disruption of law enforcement during a civil disturbance, Fisher is accused of assaulting, resisting, or impeding specific officers.

Fisher entered the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, at around 2:24 p.m., according to FBI Boston, through the Senate Wing Door on the North side of the Capitol.

Fisher was in the Orientation Lobby of the Capitol Visitor Center when a fight broke out between a U.S. Capitol Police Officer and other protesters at around 2:38 p.m. Fisher pushed a chair into the officer as the officer was pursuing a rioter who had used pepper spray, then fled the building.

According to FBI Boston, Fisher is also accused of “misdemeanor offenses,” including “entry and re-entry into a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a Capitol building; acts of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or building; and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.”

Later on today, he is anticipated in court.

Since January 6, 2021, more than 1,000 people have been detained for offenses connected to the U.S. Capitol breach in almost all 50 states. 320 individuals, including others, have been accused of assaulting or obstructing law enforcement.

The Capitol disturbances of January 6 are still being looked into.
