Christiano Ronaldo has left Manchester United, effective immediately, according to the team.
Following an interview with Piers Morgan where Ronaldo openly bashed United and manager Erik Ten Hag, Ronaldo has agreed to a mutual termination of his contract.
“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.” United wrote in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to sources from ESPN, Ronaldo was very willing to leave, not even having to be paid by United.
Ronaldo’s contract was set to expire in June, but was sought to be canceled early as Ronaldo said that the club has not made any progress since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson retired. The striker also said he”doesn’t respect” Ten Hag.
Ronaldo has the freedom to move to any club now and doesn’t have to wait for the transfer window in January.
The striker is currently in Qatar training with his Portugal team, getting ready for their game against Ghana on Thursday.
