A fight at an alternative school in Lawrence on Thursday morning resulted in the handcuffing of one pupil and the hospitalization of another.

Charges of attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a dangerous weapon on school property were brought against a 15-year-old Lawrence teenager. He will be charged in Essex County Juvenile Court.

According to Lawrence Police, when officers arrived at the Rise Academy on Broadway to investigate a complaint of a fight between students, they discovered one male student suffering from a non-life-threatening stab wound.

Paramedics provided on-site care to the sufferer before transferring her to Lawrence General Hospital.

The police say the 15-year-old offender was taken into custody without a problem.

“The close collaboration between Lawrence Police and Lawrence Public Schools is an essential piece of ensuring a safe, healthy learning environment for the entire school community, and both parties will continue working together to implement the best available public safety practices in the interest of students, staff and families,” said a spokesperson from the Lawrence Police Department.
