Following an alleged home invasion on Monday night, police said a guy in an SUV attempted to run down women by swerving through lawns in Tewksbury.

According to Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus, Tommy Moges, 22, of Everett, was detained on suspicion of breaking and entering, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, assault with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, negligent operation of a vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage, and leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury.

Just before 7:30 p.m., Tewksbury police officers responded to a report of a break-in at River Road. When they arrived, they met with a local resident who claimed that an unauthorized intruder had broken into his home and fled when confronted, according to Columbus.

Officers discovered while en approach to the scene that a man was driving erratically close to the location of the alleged break-in and that the car had struck a woman in a neighboring yard.

Investigation found that after exiting the residence on River Road, the suspect, later identified by police as Moges, attempted to run over the woman on Mount Joy Drive by driving through a yard in an effort to strike her.

Moges’ Honda was able to avoid hitting that woman, but he allegedly continued driving and struck a second woman in the leg in the same yard.

Moges, according to Columbus, was detained at his home by Everett police after fleeing the scene after hitting a rock wall as it left the yard.

The police agency released surveillance footage of Moges trying to run the women over while he was driving around in circles on lawns and through shrubs.

In Lowell District Court on Tuesday, Moges was scheduled to appear before a judge.

An investigation is still being conducted.
