Nashville police are searching for the driver of the truck that struck and killed the woman.

According to WSMV, the woman was 50 years old and visually impaired. Her identity has not been released.

Nashville officers say the woman was struck Wednesday morning as she crossed a bridge with her dog.

A bystander discovered her and informed the police. She was brought to a local hospital, where she passed away.

However, the woman’s dog was unharmed and made it home while waiting at the front entrance of her nearby apartment, according to WTVF.

The dog is in the custody of animal control while police search for the woman’s next of kin. The family has the option to claim custody if they want the dog. However, if it doesn’t work out, the canine will be made available for adoption, per WKRN.
