Officials have verified that a student from Nantucket High School died on Thursday in a motorbike accident on the island.
The collision occurred after 2:00 p.m. According to the Nantucket Police Department, the accident occurred on Thursday near the intersection of Milestone Road and New South Road and included a motorbike and truck.
Nantucket Public School Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Hallett released a statement saying, “We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our high school students in a tragic motor vehicle accident yesterday. She continued, saying that “classes at Nantucket High School will be canceled, but the building will be open for students and staff to seek support services and be together during this difficult time.”
Police from Nantucket and Massachusetts State Police are still looking into the collision.
